Tips To Drive During Fog

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Weather in Pakistan is very unpredictable and especially in Karachi. If you’re driving within city or moving intercity, due to smoke from vehicles and weather changes you may find fog anytime. To meet the speed of the world, we choose the roads to be the first place to start. We always are running out of time and especially when weather is not good. Well, here’re some tips to drive well in bad weather.

Driving in Fog is Similar to What You Expect in Rain

Driving in a fog can be a similar experience to the one in the rain. You should make it a point that you leave your home early to reach the destination safely on time. This is done, as during foggy condition, you will not be able to drive as fast as you normally can.

Choose Low Beams over Bright Ones

For headlights to be used during foggy conditions, make dim beams as your choice; avoid using the brighter ones. Bright beams, in this case, may lead you to loosing visibility, as you get a glare coming straight at you. Light from these beams can get reflected if the fog is thick and give you a feeling that you are driving with sunrays coming directly in your eyes.

So to drive safe in a fog, you should drive slow, make use of low beam headlight and leave your place early to avoid any rash ride on the road.

How To Change Lane Safely

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Driving on busiest roads of Karachi is really very difficult; you’ll find inexperienced drivers as well as unaware pedestrians who walk more on roads than footpaths. Well, we’ll discuss all the issues related to drivers, pedestrians and vehicles in Karachi later, but at this moment the most important is your safety being a driver. Today’s tip is about changing lanes:

Out of all the mistakes we make on the road, incorrect method of changing lanes is the one, which are most common. This is one of the issues, which most drivers have, with others. You should learn and develop the lane changing technique, if you are looking to have a safe time of the roads.

Before changing the lanes, make sure that you scan the road that is ahead of you. It is very important to know what others on the road are doing. You should keep an eye out for pedestrians on the road, vehicles that are reducing the speed and drivers merging across the lane on which you are driving. You should also watch out for the brake lights of the car that is in front of you.

Rearview mirrors can give a wider viewing than what you get from the side ones. You should only give it a quick glance and get back to the main task in hand, keeping your eyes on the road that is ahead. These mirrors help you in having a watch out for cars that are speeding up more than what you are.

One of the most important defensive techniques is to keep communicating with other drivers on the same lane as you are. By giving signals to your fellow drivers, you are making sure that an opportunity is being provided to you for a safe lane change.

You should make it a point that you are not changing lanes, in case you are coming across intersections where crossroads, streets or side roads meet the road on which you are driving.

Defensive driving is totally based upon knowing the proper method of signaling and lane changing technique. So, make sure that you master these.
